Fact Check: Does Loki Have Squirrel Powers With His Devil Fruit in One Piece?

Did Oda really give Loki a Squirrel Devil Fruit in One Piece? Unfortunately we can’t confirm anything right now, but the thought truly is amusing.

Loki, One Piece

The One Piece manga fans can’t seem to hold themselves back from guessing what’s to come in the upcoming chapters. In one of the recent fan-made posts (on X), claims have been made that one of the most highlighted characters right now, Loki, has Squirrel Devil Fruit powers:

So we dived to check the legitimacy of the claim. While the thought would really be intriguing, we cannot confirm the viability since no spoilers beyond the upcoming manga Chapter 1170 have surfaced on the internet, as of now. However, some spoilers floating around the internet hint that the claim may not be as absurd as it seems at first.

Did Oda Give Loki Squirrel Powers in One Piece?

As mentioned earlier, no further spoilers or information after the One Piece manga Chapter 1170 have surfaced on the internet at the time of this article’s writing. However, a spoiler post (on Reddit) has claimed the following regarding Chapter 1170:

According to these claims, Loki finally tamed Ragnir, his hammer, which was apparently guarding a chest. The ending of the chapter reportedly shows Loki opening the chest and not actually the Devil Fruit inside it. And that’s where the speculation of a Ratatoskr Devil Fruit, or the “Squirrel” fruit in this case, comes in.

While one portion of the fanbase thinks that the chest is guarding this fruit and Loki is set to consume it, others are convinced that it is Ragnir who is the true user of the Ratatoskr Devil Fruit. Which is why nothing can be confirmed as of writing, and it is advised that fans wait for the full spoilers from more trustworthy sources online.

That said, the Elbaf Arc is one of the most vital arcs that reveals many hidden mysteries regarding the Void Century and Ancient Weapons. Adding a Squirrel into the mix, especially with a significant character like Loki, doesn’t really feel odd. Secondly, Oda, in his previous Chapter 1169, had already claimed that the Devil Fruit is going to be of a legendary status. But how exactly is a squirrel legendary? Let us show you.

Based on what we know about the Elbaf Arc from One Piece, the characters and plot are heavily inspired by Norse mythology. And since we already know Loki is getting a legendary Devil Fruit, it would only make sense if it were a mythical Zoan-type fruit. And as mentioned earlier, it is none other than Ratatoskr.

Ratatoskr is the mischievous squirrel from Norse mythology that scurries up and down the world tree, Yggdrasil, carrying insults and gossip. He exchanges this information between the eagle at the top and the serpent Nidhoggr at the roots, fueling conflict and representing the destructive nature of communication and discord.

He is often considered a trickster, which we already know the Norse God Loki has built a reputation for. So, combining the two would definitely be something not out of the question.
