The One Piece live-action Season 2 trailer release and MrBeast changing his X pfp to Luffy have fans speculating this must be a marketing strat!
Arguably the biggest content creator on YouTube, MrBeast recently changed his X profile picture to Luffy from One Piece. Soon after, the official One Piece Netflix account on X dropped the trailer for Season 2 of the live-action adaptation.
Fans are now theorizing that this is too clean to be a coincidence, claiming MrBeast must be behind the promotion of One Piece Live-Action Season 2- the least obvious marketing ploy.
But let’s see if that really is the case, or if MrBeast is just becoming a One Piece fan organically in 2025. To start things off, there’s been plenty of evidence that he has long been an anime fan. Then why the sudden profile picture change now? Here’s what we can speculate.
What MrBeast Changing His X Profile Picture to Luffy Signifies

In a reply to the fan comment, MrBeast himself shut down the rumors. He claimed that he simply had time over the holidays to dive into One Piece, and so he did. There’s nothing special about it.
He also pointed out that he’s watched countless anime and has probably seen more than 90% of the people reading the tweet, and asked fans to stop treating him like a fake anime fan.
From that response, it’s pretty clear he’s denying any claims that he’s secretly promoting OPLA. More importantly, this isn’t him suddenly jumping on the hype train, because he’s never really been a new fan to begin with.
In fact, MrBeast has previously mentioned Attack on Titan as one of his favorite series, and gave tribute to some other anime, too, here and there. So the idea that this is some carefully planned marketing move starts to feel a lot weaker.
At this point, his X profile picture changing to Luffy, lining up with the OPLA Season 2 trailer drop, might just be a once-in-a-lifetime coincidence, nothing more than that.
How Popular Social Media Influencers Became Big Anime Fans

Not just MrBeast; in a really short span of time, especially in 2025, a lot of streamers and social media influencers have started openly calling anime a life-changing part of their lives.
You’ve got Kai Cenat saying Naruto changed his life (via X), iShowSpeed claiming One Piece saved him, and moments like that popping up more and more often across platforms.
Then there are celebrities, too. Ariana Grande has openly praised Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away (via Comicbook), Megan Fox has talked about being an anime fan, and the list honestly keeps growing.
Some basic info on the upcoming One Piece Live-Action Season 2:
| TITLE | One Piece Live-Action Season 2 |
| CREATORS | Matt Owens and Steven Maeda |
| ORIGINAL AUTHOR | Eiichiro Oda |

All of this is big news for the industry. Sure, it’s mostly the huge, mainstream IPs getting the spotlight, but even that helps anime as a whole. More attention means more investment, better production, and hopefully a lot more great projects ahead — here’s hoping this kind of news keeps coming.
