One Piece‘s Elbaph Arc has been a whirlwind, and if Chapter 1170 — titled “Contrary” — is any indication, then the long-running shonen manga is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. In this chapter, King Harald’s rampage finally comes to a close, saving Elbaph from being overrun by Imu and the Celestial Dragons.

Defeating King Harald was no easy feat, and in the end, the unfortunate burden of killing the kindhearted leader of Elbaph fell on none other than his son, Loki. To do so, Loki was forced to consume the Land of Giants’ legendary Devil Fruit, ushering in the biggest threat to the World Government’s stability since the return of Sun God Nika himself.
Loki’s Devil Fruit Is the World Government’s Worst Nightmare

The forbidden Devil Fruit of Elbaph has been a defining part of One Piece‘s current arc, but as its powers become clearer, the true potential of this Devil Fruit has grown to frightening levels. Per Beardhill Jarul, this Devil Fruit would have given King Harald the power to destroy the world, and it doesn’t seem like it was a simple figure of speech. Loki’s first words to Monkey D. Luffy reinforce this idea, as he states in Chapter 1130:
I am the Sun God who brings the world to an end, Loki!
The idea that Loki’s Devil Fruit gives him the power to destroy the world has been reinforced several times, and now that it’s finally appeared in some capacity, it’s clear that none of Elbaph’s Giants were bluffing when it came to its danger.
Loki effortlessly handles King Harald in One Piece Chapter 1170, and although his appearance is mostly obscured, the Anubis-like form that he takes is absolutely massive compared to the other giants, making him hundreds upon hundreds of feet tall. To wipe the floor with Harald is a massive feat, especially considering the king’s showings against Scopper Gaban, Shanks, and Rocks D. Xebec.
While Loki ends up defeating his father with a giant blast of Conqueror’s Haki mixed with Ragnir’s lightning, the rebellious Giant’s Devil Fruit is poised to play a massive role in One Piece‘s final saga. As Imu and the Celestial Dragons prepare to flood the world, they now face yet another major impediment to their plans of world domination, and should Loki pair up with Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates, then their biggest nightmare may finally come true.
Between Luffy and Loki, Imu’s Time at the Top Is Coming to an End

Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates have numerous high-profile allies scattered throughout the Grand Line, including several sovereign leaders such as Nefertari Vivi and Boa Hancock. That said, their alliance with Loki has the potential to be the most significant military partnership in One Piece, as it would mark the unification of two of the biggest threats to Imu’s throne.
Imu has clearly expressed his desire to stop Luffy following the reveal of his Gear 5 transformation, and based on recent events, the shadowy leader also plans to use the Giants of Elbaph to achieve world domination. It’s not exactly clear why Imu wanted Elbaph’s forces, but now that he’s used his Domi Reversi ability on the Giant Warrior Pirates, the burden of protecting Elbaph now falls firmly on the shoulders of Luffy, Loki, and their allies.
If there’s anyone in the Land of Giants who can help Luffy stop Imu’s assault, then it’s Loki. His quest to destroy the world might seem evil at face value, but in reality, he’s determined to destroy Imu’s totalitarian regime, the likes of which span the globe. Whatever his Devil Fruit may be, it’s all but guaranteed to be a crucial part of achieving his goal.
According to the Harley, the world has been born anew twice before, so Loki’s desire to “destroy the world” might not be as apocalyptic as it sounds. In fact, the end of the Third World (which seems to refer to One Piece‘s modern era) is said to come about when the Sun God dances and laughs, meaning the path to achieving Loki’s goal will almost certainly go through Luffy and his Gear 5 transformation.
